Tantabiddi Ningaloo Reef/Westside
Northerly winds hampered many boaters and anglers at the start of the week making those who did get out boating experienced rough conditions Fish were slow on the bite out of Tantabiddi with nothing too exciting to report. As the week went on and the weather fined up boaters reported good catches of red emperor, bluebone and coral trout. Sharks were particularly active and made landing them very difficult. Yesterday crew that hired the 7m boat went wide and caught some good sized red emperor, spangled emperor. The were also plenty of trevally that they caught & released. Sharks were still pretty active, but they managed to land afew red emperor on the boat. See photo attached. They also hooked a small black marlin in the electric reel. It was rigged with a squid & sinker bottom bouncing when they hooked it.
Exmouth Gulf/Bundegi/Murion Islands:
Squid numbers were plentiful out of bundegi with many anglers bagging out easily. Mackeral are also still running hot between Bundegi and the Murion Islands with Halco being the lure of choice. On Sunday boaters headed left of bundegi boat ramp and caught a good cobia in about of 12m of water, and spangled emperor. Sharks were very active & unfortunately were pretty quick to take their tax . With the wind finally backing off towards the end of the week saw absolute glass off conditions around both Tantabiddi & Exmouth Gulf. Boating conditions were amazing whether fishing, diving or just having a look around. Crew who hired the 6m hire boat yesterday and went to the Murions saw whales & their calf, manta rays with the water offering amazing visibility.
